Bon Odori 2005
I had a great weekend. :)

Yesterday night, I went to the Bon Odori (Japanese Ghost Festival) with a bunch of friends. I almost didn't have anyone to go with since Mark told me on Thursday morning that he couldn't go with me cos he had to go visit his father's family in Taipeng. That sent me into a frantic frenzy for the next two days cos there's nothing worse than going to some big social event alone ... it feels horrible. I couldn't call my theatre friends in Penang cos most of them (that I'd wanted to hang out with) were involved in The Pimple Years (review on my other blog soon) - which I planned to go to after the Bon Odori - and my school friends didn't want to go to The Pimple Years cos they'd wanted to stay till the Bon Odori ends. So what to do????

Eventually I'd settled on going with my friends, then hacking it over to The Actors Studio Greenhall two streets away for The Pimple Years - alone, then when it's over, meet up w/ my friends again to travel home. Then on Friday night after Taekwondo class, Wong (Hong Yew) asked if he could come w/ me to the Bon Odori cos he wanted to go but didn't know the way. Duh. I'd totally forgotten that I've got other friends than the theatre Kakis and those I see daily. So I told him he could meet me at the jetty at 6pm cos I was supposed to meet my friends there - but he didn't turn up. Turns out he SMSed my father asking for my mobile phone number (!) but since I don't have one (hehe) he couldn't contact me to confirm. Whatever. Anyways, I had to wait till 6.30pm before crossing over to Penang cos some ppl (Pei Xing and Ching Keat) were late. >:(

Here are some Bon Odori pics:

Me and Ami. Who's prettier, eh?

Me eating the most expensive Char Koay Kak in the world (cost me RM4, but since it's for charity, I guess it's ok.) Ewww, those spots are horrible!

A Japanese dancer Ah Pek - cool clothes huh? Was trying to snap the two ladies behind him, but he stepped in front of my cam before I hit the shutter.

Finally got my Japanese ladies!

Kids from the Penang Japanese School putting up an electrifying dance performance.

Apart from food and performances (dancing, drums, etc), they had other stuff like Mhendi painting (I know this isn't Japanese, but it's for charity after all. And I've never seen it live!), fish catching (couldn't get pics, too crowded) and Japanese masks and fans (sold out when I got there - at around 7.30. Stupid late boys.)

I left for The Actors Studio Greenhall at 8.30pm, sat behind Chun Kit and Ean Na (who asked me where Mark was. I think I'm spending too much time with that guy - can't I go to some theatre event without him? And he isn't even my boyfriend yet!) Met up with Halim, Adeline, Adrian, Fadz, Fariza and Razali after the show. :) Everytime I go to TAS Greenhall it's like going to a class reunion or smth like that - everyone's glad to see everybody, and of course they'll comment on your looks, what you've been doing lately, etc.

Rushed off to the jetty straight after the "reunion" cos it was getting very late and I didn't want my parents to throw a fit. However, when I called my father to tell him I was getting on the ferry ("shang chuan" in mandarin, which means getting up the boat), my tongue slipped and I said I was "shang chuang" (getting up the bed - what we call "having sex") instead. Oh. My. Goodness.

Love the pics, you look great:)

OK, cultural differences between continent and self-proclaimed continent here O___o Forgive me if any of the questions seem stupid.

What is Char Koay Kak and what is RM4? And what are The Pimple Years?

And he isn't even my boyfriend yet!

Is that a plan?

And don't worry, if it was really shang chuang, you would not have been able to pick a phone and dial a number, mwehehehe. It's not that I tried either of those, but it's just self-explanatory.
